Call your insurer and ask for a different dentist. It will save you so much trouble. Western Dental is unprofessional, not worth your time, and doesn’t deserve your money.

1) The scheduling is unreliable.

I had an appointment on January 6th 2026, which I confirmed with my insurer (who called WD directly). WD sent me several text messages specifically confirming my appointment at El Cerrito.

When I showed up, the receptionist claimed I “was not assigned to that location.” She blamed the corporate office for somehow scheduling me at the El Cerrito clinic ... with a dentist who does not practice at the El Cerrito clinic.

2) Customer service does not exist.

I called the corporate to figure out what happened with the mix-up above. On my first call, I was put on hold for 10 minutes before WD disconnected. On my second call and operator put me on hold, and then WD disconnected after 10 minutes. On my third call, after a 30 minute wait, I was routed the the scheduling team (who could not tell me what happened) and then back to the El Cerrito front desk (who could not tell me what happened).

While on hold I received an email welcoming me to their “Five Star Dental Service,” so they do appear to have a sense of humor.

3) The legal practice is questionable.

The receptionist asked me to sign paperwork saying I’d received a patient fact sheet and privacy policy. She never gave me either document. She refused to give them to me before I signed this paperwork. Naturally, I did not sign.

4) One of the required documents is a waiver of your right to a jury trial.

WD wants you to surrender your right to go to trial in the case of malpractice, and take arbitration instead. No thank you.

These people do not care but your time. Today I left after waiting 2 hours without being seen. This is the second time I've done that.

They also have plug-in air fresheners that smell real bad. They claim they don't but you can see them. So they're also dishonest.

They do have at least one really good dentist. I hope someday she gets her own practice because this place is run terribly.

Today after about an hour I started calling around trying to find another dentist that takes Medicaid. I found out that since I use lifelong medical care I can also use lifelong dental. I have an appointment for tomorrow. I am so excited to be going somewhere else.

If I could give this place no stars I would. Waited an hour and a half with a scheduled appointment to get 2 cavities done. Then I was taken to the back and told I'd have to wait another hour. There is a reason people make appointments at specific times. I had to reschedule my appointment. Let's see if this happens again. Would have appreciated a courtesy call this morning with a heads-up that they were going to be short-staffed and to plan for longer waits. Front desk personnel could be more proactive.

She was comforting, attentive, and took the time to make sure I felt completely at ease. Her gentle words, kindness, and empathy truly made a difference.

Patty was also so sweet with my daughter, even giving her a cool toothbrush that made her excited to go home and brush her teeth. That meant a lot to me as a parent.

Overall, my experience was above and beyond anything I expected. The entire staff was kind, understanding, and completely non-judgmental. I was in and out quickly, and I left feeling relieved and grateful. I’m actually looking forward to continuing my treatment with this amazing team. Highly recommend!

I don’t do many reviews, but definitely had to give 5 stars for the wonderful care I got at this office.  Dr Rubina Kaur & Patty were amazing, helpful, caring & informative!!! I was having some dental issues & went to my local dentist & felt very pushed into procedures that they said I needed asap which amounted to 1,000 of dollars I don’t have!!! Dr Kaur & Patty  was very caring & worked with me on Insurance & output of money on my end & we have taken step by step actions to get where I need to be.
